About Us

Mayo Concert Orchestra is a community orchestra, rehearsing weekly at Music West in Castlebar and performing regularly at a variety of events.  The orchestra’s repertoire includes classical favourites, themes from musicals, arrangements of traditional Irish tunes, original pieces and sacred music.  The Orchestra’s Musical Director and Conductor is Kathy Fahey, who brings a wealth of music and composition experience to the role.

In recent years we have been commissioned for a number of high profile projects and  with a number of musical personalities including Sean Keane, Stephen Doherty, David Doocey and Dermuid Moynihan. We have also performed in numerous national venues including the INEC, Royal Theatre Castlebar, University Concert Hall and the Olympia Theatre. In addition we were part of the European and American  launch of the contemporary music and dance experience Fainne Oir, which we performed in Symphony Space, Broadway, New York.

Mayo Concert Orchestra is open to all and musicians are not required to audition, though a high standard of musicianship is required to perform with the orchestra. Rehearsals generally take place between 8pm and 10pm every Wednesday evening at Music West.  If you are interested in joining the orchestra, or indeed wish to commission the orchestra for a performance, please get in touch.
